Christianity is not all about celebration and jubilation, there is also time for tribulation. Test is an affliction; the test of life is a type of affliction that every believer must go through. PRINCIPLES FOR MARITAL REST

9 Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. 10 For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up. 11 Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone? 12 And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken. Ecclesiastes 4 :9-12 (KJV)

Marriage is God’s idea not mans, that is why we must follow God’s principles. God is the author of marriage not man and the bible is the manual for every Christian couple to enjoy marital rest. Just as there are laws that governs every nation so also, there are laws and/or principles that govern every Christian marriage. Most times, these laws do not appeal to us but we must abide by them as we are in the kingdom of principles. A lawless person ends up lifeless.

3 But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition? Matthew 15:3 (KJV)

Some principles for marital rest are:

1.  Faith

Faith is the dominating weapon used to overcome obstacles and obtain miracles in life and family.

4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. I John 5:4 (KJV)

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Hebrews 11:1 (KJV)

It is acting on God’s word to commit God to perform what He has promised as He has made several promises of marital rest to us and our home in His word.

19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. Matthew 18:19 (KJV)

It is also a spiritual substance which connects man with God for divine intervention.

27 And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible. Mark 10:27 (KJV)

2.  Obedience

Obedience is prompt, willing and excited response to scriptural instructions. It is agreeing with God’s word. It costs us less to obey than to pray. Frustration and confusion will continue as long as we disobey God’s word. Disobedience sponsors crises in the family but peace will come to any family when parents and children decide to obey God’s word. Obedience to God’s word is what makes the family sweet and disobedience makes it bitter.

22 And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. I Samuel 15:22 (KJV)

To enjoy marital rest, peace and all the promises God has made to us, we need obedience.

Keys to Obedience

a)  Put God & His word first in your family

4 For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God.

Hebrews 3:4 (KJV)

God instituted marriage and He alone can grant us marital rest therefore; it is very important for us to build our marriage on His word. By doing that, we play our role in handing over our marriage to God to do with us as He has planned.

b)  Obeying the responsibilities of love & submission

25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; Ephesians 5:25 (KJV)

Husbands have the responsibility to love and it takes love to work with any woman. It takes a man that knows love to have peace in the marriage.

8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 (KJV)

Therefore, a man must first understand how God loves and deals with us for him to love his wife. Husbands, you do not love your wife because she is perfect. No matter her weaknesses, love her, give her attention, so you don’t end up in detention. Wives, submit to your husbands irrespective of how you feel, do it as unto the Lord. Obedience to God’s word is what brings marital rest and harmony in marriage.

19 If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:

Isaiah 1:19 (KJV)

We should not count the errors of our spouse because when we do that, it shows that we we do not know love and have lost the love of Christ. Husbands love your wives; Wives submit to your husbands. It does not make you a fool, that is the bible. A submissive wife cannot lose her home rather she will win her husband to Christ.

Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; I Peter 3:1 (KJV)

c)  Obedience to family provision

8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel. I Timothy 5:8 (KJV)

Every husband that wants peace must provide for the home & the wife is to manage the resources. Wives please do not leave the responsibility of preparing your husband’s meals to anyone.

d)  Obedience to covenant demands

One of the major causes of problems in marriage is finances. The devil is not the cause of hardship in the family, wilful negligence and/or disobedience to covenant practices are part of the causes.
