                OVERCOMING THE BATTLES OF LIFE

1John 5:4-5 (KJV)

⁴ For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

⁵ Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

From our text, the bible did not limit it to whoever but the bible said, “Whatever is born of God”

-        Whatever means two things

ü A person or individual that is born of God

ü Whatever is not just for persons but it also talks of purposes, and intentions. Therefore, it means whatever intention or purpose, plans are born of God, overcomes the world.

So, the bible has given us the people, the things, the activities that are programmed and set apart to be victorious. When the world throws challenges, tribulations, and pandemics of any kind at you, there is a category or things that are set to be overcomers.

Let’s look at when the bible says that something is born of God

-        It means when it is inspired by God.

-        It means the spirit and the hand of God is in it.

-        It means not inspired of man.

Genesis 2:7

King James Version

⁷ And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul.

We see when God created a man He breathed into him. He inspired man and man became a living being. So that which is born of God means that, which God has breathed upon.

-        Which that is born of God also means to initiate by God, to be led by God.

Romans 8:14 “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”

That means God lives in it. It is not enough for something to be inspired by God but to make a room for God.

So, whatever Purpose, Plans, Humans; if it is inspired by God and been led by God, will overcome the world. No matter what the world throws at you if you are of God you will overcome the world.

When things are going bad for people as the world is going through now, there are people that will never go down. You cannot be born of God and be burnt by the crisis in the world. “ Whatever is born of God overcomes the world”.

God’s person cannot be defeated by the world. No matter the flood and wind if you are born of God you will surely overcome. 

2 Timothy 2:19 King James Version 19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let everyone that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

That is why everyone born of God must mind the kind of life he or she lives. Some people live their life anyhow but when they are in need of something they go into a long fast and prayer thinking that will move God. God will not answer in times of emergency when you are not merged with him. Jesus said something in John 16: 33 “ Tribulation will come but we are overcomers” Pandemics all kind of problems, but Jesus as long overcame them for us.

HOW TO OVERCOME THE WORLD

1.    Be born of God: As long you are born of God, as long your plans are born of God you or it overcome the world. If you receive Jesus into your life and what you are doing is inspired by God then you are qualified to overcome the world.

 

2.    1 John 5:4 “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.” KJV.

Therefore, the next key to overcome is FAITH

Hear this, if you are born of God and you do not operate in faith you will not overcome. Remember you cannot walk in faith when you are not born of God. Faith is not more prayers, Faith is not more fasting, Faith is not more tears or pitiable voice in the place of prayers, thou it is okay to do all of these, but crying before God is not faith. They are not synonymous. Faith is not more begging.

Faith is not bravado, Faith is not self-confidence, Faith is not having hands laid on you, Faith is not drinking anointing oil.

So what is Faith?

3.    1 John 5:4 “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.” KJV. Not our tears, not our prayers “but this is the victory our Faith”.

Faith is simply the conviction that something is true. The full assurance that something is true. For faith to be in operation we have to believe that something we rely on is reliable. In 1 John 5:5 “Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?” KJV.

So, this is the victory our faith.

Where must the faith be?

Our faith must be rooted in Jesus Christ. Not faith in ourselves, not faith in the European economy, but our faith must in be in Jesus Christ.

What about Jesus Christ should we have faith in?

ü We should have faith in who he his: His nature, his position, and in his power.

Colossians 1:15-18 New King James Version

 15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or [a]principalities or [b]powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. 18 And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.

God in flesh, He made all things, He is above all things.

ü We should have faith in what He said: His promises, His assurance.

If we must come out of the battles of life, we must have our faith properly wired. Not by more prayers but by having our faith rooted in Christ.
